Our History

Homes for Autism was created for people with autism, by people who have children with autism, concerned citizens and caring professionals. Our founders continue to serve Homes for Autism through its Board of Directors, Advisory Board, volunteering and various committee works.

Our goal is to provide financial assistance, support and hope to caregivers who have family members with autism. Homes for Autism exists to help people with autism achieve their best and to live and grow towards a better quality of life. We specialize in creative solutions to meet the needs of the people we serve and their families.

Sadly, the impact of recent budget cuts have resulted in benefits and services to the developmentally disabled being cut – causing Homes for Autism’s services to be more important than ever.

While the homes established by Homes for Autism are initially setup to be self-supported, ours is not a cost-free operation. We provide initial home down payments and become a financial partner with residential families to help with the unexpected and annual maintenance needs.

A paid staff of one, an Executive Director, supplemented by volunteers, acts as an important resource to our residential home health care providers and families. The Executive Director works with new families to set up new homes. This includes working with families and realtors in finding homes that meet established criteria, negotiating leases and ascertaining the status of the residence in the community – to be a good neighbor. In addition, the Executive Director supervises the maintenance of existing homes, maintains communication between the health care community and our resident families and Board of Directors and acts as chief operating officer of Homes For Autism.
